View MoreWhat is Zoom! tooth whitening?

Zoom! is a bleaching process that lightens discolouration of enamel and dentin.

View MoreHow does whitening or bleaching your teeth work?

Teeth whitening can be achieved in one of two different ways:

  1. In the dental chair we place you in total control of your treatment with us as we use Zoom! system.  This takes from one to one and a half hours from set up to the new look you! Zoom is a patented technology that uses the combination of a solution and bright light to whiten your teeth up to 8 shades brighter on average whilst you sit in the chair. This may not be suitable for people with ultra sensitive teeth.
  2. In the comfort of your own home we offer the Nite White or Colgate take home whitening kits. These are tailor made for your teeth. Your dentist will take an impression of your mouth and make a tray (similar to a mouth guard) that you can use at home to whiten your teeth.

View MoreWhat causes tooth discolouration?

There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, etc. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discolouration.

View MoreWho may benefit from tooth whitening?

Almost anyone. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Your dental professional can determine if you are a viable candidate for this procedure through a thorough oral exam, including a shade assessment.

By following some simple post whitening care instructions, you teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional touch-ups with Zoom! Weekender or Nite White gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available only through your dentist.

View MoreIs Whitening safe?

YES! and is one of the least expensive and least invasive dental procedures that can improve your smile.

Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

The Zoom! light activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 26% or more, giving an average improvement of eight shades*.

During the procedure, patients may comfortably listen to music while the layer of gum protection is placed and the whitening gel is applied. Throughout this procedure you will always have someone with you. The Zoom! bleaching process is done over 1 - 4 X15 minute sessions. As you are in control, you may stop treatment at any time and you may rest in between sessions. An Assistant or Dentist will be with you in case you have any questions.

View MoreDo many people whiten their teeth?

More people than you might imagine. A bright sparkling smile can make a big difference for everyone. The Zoom! Chairside Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.

View MoreHow is exposure to the Zoom! light controlled?

The Zoom! procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. The dental professional is required to monitor the procedure to insure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected. Protective eyewear is required during the procedure.

Light sensitive individuals, including those undergoing PUVA therapy (Psoralen + UV Radiation) or other photochemotherapy, or patients with melanoma, should not undergo the Zoom! in-office procedure. Also, patients taking any light sensitive drugs or substances, whether over the counter, prescription or homeopathic, should consult their primary care physician prior to the procedure. Anyone who is not eligible for Zoom! Chairside Whitening for these reasons may be an excellent candidate for Zoom! Take-Home.

View MoreHow long does Zoom! Chairside Whitening take?

The complete procedure takes less than an hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by 45 minutes of bleaching. (A cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Zoom! Whitening session.)

View MoreAre there any side effects?

Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Zoom! light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but always dissipate.

View MoreWhat are dental crowns? And how long should the temporary crown last?

Our locally made dental crowns are custom made caps which fit over weakened or badly damaged teeth. They are also placed over dental implants. In both cases they restore appearance whilst giving the tooth strength and durability.

A temporary crown will last for about 1 to 2 weeks in between appointments of preparing and fitting the permanent crown.

View MoreWhat are our dental crowns made of?

Our dental crowns are made out of either porcelain that has been fused to metal, or porcelain, to withstand biting pressure or with a zirconia foundation to provide both strength and durability.

View MoreWhat is Root Canal Therapy?

Root Canal Therapy, also known as Endodontics, is the area of dentistry that treats infected tooth roots to save badly infected teeth that would otherwise require extraction. Root Canal Therapy focuses on removing the infected pulp from the tooth. After removal, the root canal is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and finally sealed with a filling to prevent any recurrent infection.

View MoreWhat can the dentist do to fix a gap in my mouth?

Anyone who is considered to be reasonably healthy and who wants to replace missing teeth is a possible candidate for dental implants. You must have enough bone in the area of the missing teeth to provide for the anchorage of the implants. Some people are missing all their teeth and most of those are excellent candidates for dental implants. Today, we also use implants to replace small bridges, removable partial dentures and even missing single teeth.

View MoreWhat is a Dental Implant?

Our Dental Implants are titanium screws that are inserted into the jaw bone. After fusing to the bone naturally, either a crown or bridge is attached to the top of the implant.  This provides you with a comfortable, fixed option to replace missing teeth.

View MoreWhat does an Implant do?

A dental implant is a man-made substitute for the root of a tooth, which is surgically inserted into the jawbone. The implant fuses with the jaw bone to form a secure foundation for tooth replacement. A dental implant is identical to your natural teeth in strength and function. During this entire process your natural teeth are not disturbed.
